New York Bangladeshi Imam Muhibur Rahman died as a victim of drunk driving

Bangladeshi Imam Muhibur Rahman (67) of New York died as a victim of drunk driving. Muhibur was the imam of the Castle Hill Ideal Islamic Center on Turnbull Avenue in the Bronx. Prior to this, he served as Muezzin for a long time at Parkchester Jame Masjid located in the same area. 

It is known that Imam Muhibur was knocked down 40/50 feet by a careless private car at Turnbull Avenue and Castle Hill Street on his way to the mosque for Esha prayer at around 9:30 last Monday night. Witnesses said that he died on the spot. 

Citing the ongoing investigation, the New York Police Department officer told this reporter that 27-year-old Victor Ramos was driving the car under the influence. Imam Muhibur is the victim of driving at least 40 mph over the maximum speed limit of 25 mph. Victor Ramos was arrested at the scene. His driver's license was previously suspended for reckless driving and he has 6 felony convictions against him.   

This incident has cast a shadow of grief on the Bangladeshi community in the Bronx. The country house of deceased Imam Muhibur Rahman is in Banigram of Golapganj Upazila of Sylhet. He had lived in the Bronx with his family for nearly 20 years. His family members are living in the USA. 

Meanwhile, the Janaza of the deceased Imam Muhibur Rahman was held at Bad Esha Parkchester Jame Masjid on Tuesday, September 26. His body was laid to rest at the New Jersey Muslim Cemetery on Wednesday.
