Cultural activists from Toronto's Muktabuddhi Charka celebrated Amar Ekushey February - Martyrs' Day and International Mother Language Day through songs, poems, discussions, and choreography, paying tribute to the martyrs of the language movement.
The event, held at the BCCS Auditorium (Bangladesh Centre) in Toronto, received special praise from the audience for the performances of children raised abroad. The event began with a performance by Kanchi-Kachada under the supervision of Shikha Akhtari.
The program, moderated by Himadri Roy and Elina Mita, featured popular theater actress Afroza Banu, journalists Shogat Ali Sagar, Mahbub Kamal, Ahmed Hossain, and Mahmudul Islam Selim. Poet Hossain Ara Jemi delivered the vote of thanks.
Taking the context of the language movement as a theme, dancer Seema Barua participated in a special dance performance with poems by Aryan Haque and Elina Mita. Gargi, Tinni, and Meghdipa also performed a joint dance.
Aryan Haque, Elena Mita, Aditi, Dola, Tonbi, Tapas, Rini, Tania, and Jacqueline Rosario participated in the poetry recitation individually and collectively.
Music was performed by Shikha Akhtari, Farhana Shanta, Eva Nag and her team. Finally, Ekushey's song was performed in a collective voice.
Carrie Christopher Rosario was in charge of sound control at the event, which was composed by Elina Mita and poet Hosne Ara Jemir, based on the writings of Himadri Roy.
