Paying deep tribute to the immortal martyrs of the great language movement, the Bangladesh High Commission in London observed the great Martyrs' Day and International Mother Language Day 2025 with due dignity. The silver jubilee of International Mother Language Day was celebrated in 2025 with the theme "Languages for Sustainable Development."
To mark the day, High Commissioner Abida Islam and Mayor of Tower Hamlets Lutfur Rahman paid tribute to the language martyrs by laying wreaths at the Shaheed Minar in Shaheed Altab Ali Park, East London, in the early hours of the first day of the month. Senior mission officials were present at the time. Later, in the presence of all the officers and employees of the High Commission, the High Commissioner lowered the national flag to half-mast and played the national anthem in the embassy premises.
A special discussion and cultural program was organized in the evening at the Bangladesh Embassy premises. At the beginning of the program, the embassy officials and employees sang the song “Amar Bhaiyer Rokte Rangano Ekushey February” in unison. Prominent figures from the Bangladeshi community living in London and Ireland attended this special discussion and cultural program.
