Thousands of Bangladeshi expats lit candles and waved the country's flag in the evening in Sydney's Mintoo area to celebrate victory.
Earlier, expatriate Bangladeshis took out processions of families and new generation sons and daughters holding national flags, lighting candles, and showing solidarity with the anti-discrimination movement of ordinary students in protest against the heinous killings and torture of students in the country.
The procession started from the local railway station with a banner reading 'Long March for Bangladesh' and went around the road chanting various slogans. When it reached Mintu Mall, the news of Sheikh Hasina's resignation from the post of Prime Minister came.
Immediately, the protest march turned into a victory procession. At this time, expatriate Bangladeshis are seen hugging each other and cheering for victory.
They said I can't explain the joy. But it will take a few days to believe. Later the procession ended at the local Ran Moor Community Centre. Various slogans and national anthems were chanted.
Rumana Islam Pritam, Umma Mastura Alam, Jihan Shams, Farzana Afroz, and others were in full cooperation in organizing the procession.
