A group is running a massive campaign to send remittances through illegal channels on various social media platforms in the United Arab Emirates. Meanwhile, the highest number of remittances have been sent by Bangladeshi expatriates in the United Arab Emirates in the current financial year.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Dubai Consulate and community leaders have requested expatriates to listen to these campaigns and rumors and send remittances through legitimate channels. The flow of remittances has been somewhat stagnant due to the recent quota movement in Bangladesh, but according to the opinion of the stakeholders, this movement may be active again. However, a group of miscreants on social media are running a massive campaign to prevent remittances from being sent to Bangladesh. These campaigns spread on social media sites have created a negative reaction among expatriate Bangladeshis.
Dubai Bangladesh Consulate Consul General BM Jamal Hossain said that sending money through hundi is religiously haram. He requested to avoid hundi and accept money through legitimate channels without being swayed by rumours.
Calling for caution against rumours, he said, rumors should be answered with information. Truth is the greatest answer to lies. Bangladeshi diaspora have always given it, will continue to give it. They will show proof of love for the country by sending more and more remittances.
However, ordinary expatriate businessmen said that this kind of campaign against the country is a suicidal decision. They claim that these negative campaigns are a blueprint for creating an unstable environment in the country.
They said that due to the ongoing quota reform movement, due to the disconnection of the internet, there were obstacles in sending remittances through legitimate channels. As the situation in Bangladesh begins to normalize, expatriates expect that the flow of remittances will increase again.
