Illegal travel abroad: Two youths still missing after 2 years

Dreamy young people are leaving the country in the hope of a better future and a better life. Many people think the wheel of fate will change once they reach a European country. That is why young people are migrating to Europe, which is at the top of their list of choices. However, legally traveling to Europe is like finding a golden deer. Many young people are forced to choose illegal routes due to complications and a lack of legal options. And while some people can reach their destination by falling into the clutches of brokers, many others are doomed.  

Young dreamers are often losing their lives while illegally entering Europe by sea or by crossing the risky borders of different countries. Many are also going missing. Two of them are Masud Rana (22) and Pabel Amde (25). They have been missing for 2 years while illegally entering Europe. Masud and Pabel, from the same village, went missing on their way to the European country of Greece via Iran-Türkiye.

The missing persons are Pabel Ahmed, son of Chunu Mia of Sataihal village in Gajnaipur union of Nabiganj upazila of Habiganj district, and Masud Rana, son of Dalai Mia of the same village.

The relatives of the missing Masud said that they were some of the migrants who arrived in Iran by ship from Dubai in December 2022 to go to Greece, a European country, to restore prosperity to their family. After staying in Iran for a few days, they tried to enter Turkey from Iran via a mountainous route on January 23, 2023. There were a total of 24 citizens of various countries, including 10 Bangladeshis, in their group. They disappeared while crossing the Turkish border through high and low mountains, deserts, and inaccessible roads covered in snow. Since then, no trace of Masud has been found.

The relatives of the other missing Pabel said that 35 young men, including Pabel, started their journey from Iran to Turkey. While crossing the Turkish border, the members of the broker gang crossed the mountainous desert and snow-covered impassable roads in the dark of night and entered Turkey. When they passed the border guard camp, the border guard members launched an operation after sensing their presence. At that time, 8 young men hid on one side and Pabel tried to escape with 27 young men on the other side. Since then, Pabel has been missing. No trace of Pabel has been found.
