The Bangladesh Embassy in Mexico City has launched an e-passport service for Bangladeshi expatriates. This service opens the door to travel security and seamless convenience for Bangladeshi citizens. It was inaugurated on Sunday (December 8) local time.
The launch of the e-passport service has achieved a significant milestone. It will open a new horizon in enhancing travel security and consular facilities for expatriate Bangladeshi citizens living in countries under concurrent jurisdiction, including Mexico. Government delegations from Bangladesh, including expatriate Bangladeshis and local dignitaries, attended the inauguration ceremony.
During the event's inauguration, Ambassador Abida Islam highlighted the role of e-passports in modernizing the national travel infrastructure and meeting international standards.
It is worth noting that the launch of this service marks the 52nd embassy of Bangladesh in Mexico City as part of the government's digitalization efforts and efficiency enhancement. It is also expected that this service will ensure improved security measures, faster immigration processes, and a seamless travel experience in line with international standards.
The program began with a documentary on the introduction of e-passports. Then, speeches were delivered by Arifuzzaman Kabir (Ericsson), Akhtaruzzaman (Japan-Bangladesh Tobacco Limited), Azad Hossain (Restaurant Businessman) and Shamsul Alam Khan Chowdhury (Gramin Carso) on behalf of the Bangladeshi expatriates living in Mexico. In their speeches, they emphasized the importance of facilitating movement and strengthening ties with the global community through this great initiative.
Khalil Ahmed, Joint Secretary, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and Mahbubur Rahman, Deputy Project Director, Passport and Immigration, discussed the policy of the e-passport system, as well as its technology, implementation, and long-term plans. At the end of the event, they presented a commemorative crest to Ambassador Abida Islam.
