The oath-taking and assembly of the elected committee of the Bangladesh Society for the 2025-2026 term was held with a pledge to work for the overall welfare of the community by avoiding disputes and divisions, cooperating, and with the determination to establish a Bangladesh Center in New York.
Last Monday (December 16) evening, in a pleasant atmosphere in the spirit of Bangladesh's Victory Day, the inaugural gathering deeply remembered all the deceased officers of this organization, which was established 50 years ago, and honored the living.
Chief Election Commissioner Advocate Jamal Ahmed Johnny administered the oath of office to all the new committee officers, including the new and old. The gathering became even more lively with the enthusiastic presence of thousands of expatriates and the arrival of New York City Mayor Eric Adams. Mayor Adams said that the city will continue to cooperate in all the works to fulfill the expectations of the elected officials. However, for this, everyone must remain united. State Assemblywoman Jennifer Rajkumar, a beloved community figure, also called for working in all city, state, and federal elections.
It is worth noting that Jennifer Rajkumar, the first South Asian woman in New York State, has always stood by Bangladeshis. That is why she spoke at the time, hoping for the unwavering support of Bangladeshis even when she was running for the position of New York City Comptroller. Senator John Lew, another close to the community, was the middleman and promised to stand by the expatriates in the days ahead, amid huge applause.
