National ID card registration and smart card service activities begin in Malaysia from January 16

The much-awaited National Identity Card (NID) registration and smart card distribution program will be launched for expatriate Bangladeshis living in Malaysia. This service will start from January 16, 2025. The High Commission has said in a special notification that this service can be availed by directly attending the Bangladesh High Commission in Kuala Lumpur. In a notification issued on January 9, the High Commission said that the Bangladesh High Commission is providing the National Identity Card Registration and Smart NID Card activities and services, in Kuala Lumpur for eligible expatriate Bangladeshis living in Malaysia. From January 16, 2025, all activities including receiving and processing applications for National Identity Card Registration and Smart NID Cards will be conducted directly from Bangladesh High Commission No. 5B and 5C (Lot No. 9 and 10), Jalan Sultan Yahya Petra, 54100, Kuala Lumpur.

Expatriate Bangladeshis must follow the following process to register for NID and obtain a smart card. In the application process for national identity card registration, they must apply through the designated website of the Bangladesh government https://services.nidw.gov.bd. Expatriate citizens must use the correct mobile number for online registration. Later, the OTP and necessary SMS related to NID will be sent to the said mobile number. Once the registration is complete, the applicant must log in and download the form after providing all his information. Later, the downloaded form along with the relevant documents mentioned below will be brought to the Bangladesh High Commission, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to provide biometric information. Citizens must carry the necessary documents/papers for national identity card registration. Among them an online filled application form (Registration Form-2) Valid Bangladeshi passport. NID/Death registration or certificate of parents. Online birth registration certificate. Education certificate (if applicable). Recent passport-sized color photograph. Marriage certificate, NID of husband/wife (for married couples). Citizenship certificate (in case of Mayor/Councillor/Chairman/CEO in Cantonment area). Account No. 564427560878, Bangladesh High Commission, May Bank along with a deposit slip of RM75 towards the fee should be submitted to Bangladesh High Commission Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Registered persons can download and print the NID card by logging in to the NID online account.
