Bangladesh participated in the 20th edition of the Malaysia International Halal Showcase, known as the world's largest halal showcase. The four-day event ran from September 17 to Friday (September 20) at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Center in Kuala Lumpur.
45 countries of the world participated in the fair through more than 1000 booths in 15 clusters including food and beverages, modest fashion, e-commerce, Islamic finance, and fintech. The fair is organized by the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry of Malaysia and the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Metrade). The Halal Development Corporation Berhad (HDC) of Malaysia is working as a subsidiary organization of GEC Development of Islamic Development of Malaysia (JAKIM) in this fair.
Five industrial institutions of Bangladesh participated in this fair. Food & Beverage, Leather & Leather Products, Chamber of Commerce - Nouris Foods Limited, Olympic Industries Limited, Pran Foods, KMR Craft (Leather Goods), and Malaysia-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce from Bangladesh participated in the fair. Bangladesh High Commission in Malaysia has provided overall support to the participating institutions including networking, and business matchmaking.
On the closing day of the fair on Friday (September 20), the High Commissioner of Bangladesh in Malaysia visited the fair and Bangladeshi stalls. Shamim Ahsan. He spoke to Bangladeshi businessmen and gave various suggestions to expand the market of their products in Malaysia. He assured all kinds of cooperation from the High Commission. At that time, Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (METRED) Chairman Dato Seri Rizal Merikan Neina Merikan, Chief Executive Officer Datuk Mohammad Mustafa Abdul Aziz, Bangladesh High Commission Councilor (Consular) Morshed Alam, First Secretary (Press) Sufi Abdullahil Maruf, First Secretary (Commercial) Pranab Kumar Ghosh along with High Commission officials and expatriate Bangladeshis were present.
The High Commissioner told the journalists present that in the context of the growing demand for Bangladeshi products in Malaysia, the High Commission is actively working on other plans including participating in various trade fairs to expand the market for Bangladeshi products.
He further said that trading of halal products is a growing sector. Recently, the demand for halal products has increased and the volume of halal trade has also increased tremendously. Although Bangladesh is the third Muslim-majority country in the world, it is far behind in the trade of halal products. Malaysia has maintained the top position in halal trade for the past 10 years. The High Commission is working with the relevant ministries and departments of Malaysia to expand halal trade in Bangladesh. In addition, businessmen in Malaysia are offered the opportunity to take advantage of the global halal economy of three trillion USD by establishing halal corridors/halal hubs through joint ventures/projects in Bangladesh.
