The 26th day-long Sydney Book Fair, organized by Ekushey Academy Australia, was held at Ashfield Park in Sydney on Sunday (February 23).
The book fair was officially inaugurated at 9:21 am with a morning ferry. 30 social and cultural organizations participated in the morning ferry with their respective banners and wreaths. In addition, Bangladeshi literature lovers who came to the book fair premises from Newcastle and Canberra and their families participated in the morning ferry and laid wreaths in memory of the language martyrs.
In 2006, Ekushey Academy built the International Mother Language Monument in Ashfield Park, Sydney. Since then, on International Mother Language Day, a morning ferry has been organized at this fair in the local style.
At 1 pm, the cover of the Matrbhasha Sahitya Sankalpa was unveiled in the presence of the Executive Committee and Advisory Committee of Ekushey Academy, moderated by Shakhawat Nayan. At the same time, the covers of new books by seven poets and writers living in Australia were unveiled.
In the official program moderated by Ekushey Academy General Secretary Bulbul Ahmed Saju, Shri Ashish Bhattacharya was awarded the 'Mother Language Day Lifetime Achievement Award' in recognition of his creative artwork and 25 years of unique contribution to the 'Matrubhasha' literary collection published by Ekushey Academy.
