The five-day Gulf Food Fair is underway in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Hundreds of thousands of employees and customers from 5,000 companies worldwide are now flocking to Dubai for this event.
Like every year, more than 5,500 companies from around 130 countries, including Bangladesh, have participated in the Dubai Gulf Food fair. However, despite the huge demand, sufficient space could not be allocated for the Bangladesh pavilion at the fair this time, either. The Bangladesh pavilion is located in Jabil Hall Four of the Dubai World Trade Center. Traders are displaying their products in this 30th edition, where 41 food manufacturing companies have participated under the supervision of the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).
Even though there are no retail sales, traders are busy creating demand and foreign consumers for their products at the fair.
On the second day of the fair, the Bangladeshi pavilion was visited by Anwar Hossain, Vice Chairman of the Export Promotion Bureau, Bangladesh Ambassador to Abu Dhabi Tarek Ahmed, Director (Fairs) Khaled Mahmud, Commercial Counselor of the Bangladesh Consulate Ashish Kumar Sarkar, Deputy Secretary (Exports) Zakir Hossain and businessmen.
After the inspection, Export Promotion Bureau Vice Chairman Anwar Hossain said 41 companies from the country had attended the fair. Hopefully, this year, too, the sales target of 1 billion dollars will be exceeded. However, since the space allocated for the Bangladesh pavilion at the fair is small, more companies could not be given the opportunity despite their interest. He said that a meeting will be held with the fair organizers regarding this matter.
In addition to increasing imports and exports, this fair also provides a great opportunity to learn about food products from other countries. Those concerned believe it will be easier to expand the global food product market by learning from this.
