Victory Day in Canada

Victory Day was celebrated in Bangla Town in Toronto, Canada, with the slogan 'Fascism-free, discrimination-free and non-communal Bangladesh' in mind.

The event was organized by the Progressive Democratic Initiative (PDI) on Friday (December 13) evening.

Azfar Syed Ferdous presided over the program. In the first part, directed by Monir Zaman Raju, four brave freedom fighters living in Canada were honored. 

The four freedom fighters who were honored with the red and green Uttariya are Azizul Malik, Mohammad Mashuk Mia, Mohammad Ilias Mia and Syed Nazmul Hossain.

The meeting was discussed by Bidyut Ranjan Dey, journalist Saikat Rushdi, former student leader Nasir Ud Duja, Udichi general secretary Minara Begum, Anyaswar head Ahmed Hossain, theatre activist Nayan Hafiz, cultural personality Shahid Khandaker Tuku, Pathshala teacher Farhana Azim Shiuli, Swapan Deb and others.

The speakers said that even after 54 years of independence, it has not been possible to establish democracy in the country. Although the fascist government was overthrown in the July coup, there has been no change in the system. The mischief of communal forces has increased in the country. The speakers demanded a free, fair and black money-free general election after the necessary reforms in the country at the earliest.

After the discussion, a delightful cultural program was held. Rowshan Jahan Urmi hosted the program, which featured dance performances by Aruna Haider, a prominent dancer from the city. Poets Reza Aniruddha, Masud Parvez, Syed Marzia Afroz, and Farzana Baby recited poems. 

Farhana Azim Sheuli, Asif Chowdhury, and Close-up stars Naureen and Suman Malik performed the music. Udichi Shilpi Gosthi, Canada, performed mass music.
