Ibrahim Khalil is the first Bangladeshi Deputy Mayor in Sydney's Campbelltown

Bangladeshi-born councilor Ibrahim Khalil Masood was elected deputy mayor for the next year after defeating Labor candidate Karen Hunt in a vote by councilors of the city council in Campbelltown last Tuesday (September 5). He earned the honor and glory of being the first Bangladeshi Deputy Mayor in Sydney's Campbelltown.

City council elections are held every 4 years but the last election was held late due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Councilor Khalil Masood was elected as an independent candidate from the Community Voice Campbelltown group in the last December 4, 2021 election. The majority of Bangladeshis live in the Campbelltown City Council area of ​​Sydney. The council currently has two councilors.
