The wave of anti-quota movement in Bangladesh also hit New York. The brave freedom fighters met in two separate rallies on July 16 against the demands of the BNP and reform of the quota system on behalf of the agitators. 

A preparatory meeting of the freedom fighters at a party center in Jackson Heights informed that the tactics adopted by the defeated enemies of 71 in the name of the anti-quota movement could not be accepted. In this preparatory meeting, brave freedom fighters Golam Mostafa Khan Miraj, Lablu Ansar, Rashed Ahmed, Abul Bashar Chunnu, Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury, Farooq Hossain, Zahiruddin, Community Organizer Tofazzbal Liton, Sanjeevan Sarkar and others were present. 

Meanwhile, on the same evening, BNP leaders and activists staged a protest under the banner of 'Expatriate Bangladeshi Citizen' in support of the anti-quota agitators. At that time, they alleged that the ruling party was carrying out repression to suppress the ongoing movement in Bangladesh and the speakers expressed their determination to stay till the demand of freedom fighter quota reform was met.  

BNP leader Rita Rahman, Golam Farooq Shaheen, Aliullah Mohammad Atiqur Rahman, Saidur Rahman Saeed, Habibur Rahman Salim Reza, Ruhul Amin Nasir, Jasimuddin VP, Jahangir Sohrawardy, Ahbab Chowdhury, Badrul among others spoke in the rally moderated by BNP leader Ghiyasuddin. Haque Azad, Aminul Islam, etc. Among the leaders were MA Batin, Jahangir Alam, Anwarul Islam Shaheen, and others.
