Bangladesh's Hafiz wins bronze in Asia Cup Carrom

Hafizur Rahman became the first player of Bangladesh to win the bronze medal in singles in the Asia Cup Carrom Championship. He won the medal after finishing third with 12 points after seven rounds in the  Swiss League event held in Male, Maldives on Tuesday (April 30). 

India's Prashant More won the gold by scoring 14 points and Sri Lanka's Mohammad Shahid Hilmi won the silver by scoring 12 points. Shahid won the silver on net points even though he had equal points with Hafeez.

Bangladesh Carrom Federation General Secretary Ashraf Ahmed Lyon is very excited about this achievement, 'Bangladesh won silver in the team category in 2011. This is the first time a carrom player from Bangladesh has won a bronze medal in a single event. This is the result of our regular games and practices.'

Players from seven countries participated in this tournament. In this event, Bangladesh national team player Hemayet Molla was 11th with 10 points, Mohammad Robin Ali was 28th with 8 points, Farzana Banu was 43rd with six points, Biplab Roy was second with equal points, Shamsunnahar Maqsuda was 56th with six points, Afsana Nasreen was next with the same points and Sabina Akhtar got 75th by getting four points.
