The final of the Asian Cup T20 was held at the Dawn Bear Sports Ground under the initiative of the Bangladeshi Community Association of Nova Scotia (BDCANS). India became the champion and Bangladesh the runner-up in the tournament. India defeated Bangladesh by 51 runs in the final. The match was reduced to 18 overs due to poor light.
The tournament is mainly organized with expatriates living in Nova Scotia. It was a thrilling and memorable T20 cricket tournament for the first time in Nova Scotia involving India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.
The Bangladesh Community Association of Nova Scotia Canada is not only the host of the tournament, but the organization also showcases Canada's spirit of multiculturalism and diversity.
The India and Pakistan teams featured a number of Novakasia League players throughout the tournament. The Bangladesh team reached the final after being undefeated in the group stage. Red-green representatives led by Kabir Hussain entered the finals with happy memories of defeating strong teams like India and Pakistan. But Kabir's army failed to give their best in the final.
On this day, India captain Mohammad Shafi won the toss and batted at the Don Bear Stadium. Comeback, tenacity, fight to the end – India captain Mohammad Shafi had to go through a lot to win against Bangladesh. Opener Shafi (32), middle order batsman Omar (45), Mand Singh (39) played an effective innings and India gave Bangladesh a target of 157 runs. Chhotan took three wickets, Chinna and Rao took two wickets each for Bangladesh.
In response, Bangladesh's innings ended at 105 runs due to batting failure. For Bangladesh, Raju 14, Chinna 21 and Chotan 15 runs are significant. For India, Omar 4 and Vikas 2 wickets are notable.
Bangladesh team's Chinna Man of the Series, Choton received the award for the highest wicket taker from Pakistan captain Naeem and India manager Mujeeb respectively. Mand Singh of India received the Man of the Match trophy from Secretary Jaideep Kumar.
Dartmouth North local MLA Susan LeBlanc presented the runner-up trophy to Bangladesh captain Kabir. Indian captain Mohammad Shafi receives the Champions Trophy from East Hunt MLA John Macdonald. Pakistan captain Naeem received the trophy from Imam Hamza Mangera of Dartmouth Mosque.
Haseeb Khan, the captain of Bangladesh's 2nd team, took the trophy from local Bangladeshi senior Jaseem. Chairman of BDcans. Gholam Kibria presented greetings on behalf of the organization to MLA Susan LeBlanc and Dartmouth Mosque Imam Hamza Mangera. Finance Secretary Ahsanul Haque presented a felicitation gift on behalf of the organization to East Hunt MLA John Macdonald.
Despite not being champions, the performance of Bangladeshi players in the final match won everyone's hearts. The spectators of the Bangladesh team bring a festive mood to the entire field on the final day.
