As part of its efforts to deport foreign nationals living in the United States illegally, the Trump administration has also begun deporting Bangladeshi nationals. According to information received, 400 to 500 Bangladeshi nationals without valid documents have already been identified for deportation.

It is learnt that two meetings were also held in Dhaka to discuss what action can be taken regarding the deportees. The meetings held by the Home Ministry on Wednesday and Thursday informed that the US government has started deporting illegal citizens, and it is estimated that six to seven Bangladeshis will be deported every week. After receiving all the returning Bangladeshi citizens at the Dhaka airport, the government will provide them with the necessary assistance to return home. Ministry officials said that the meeting decided to request that the US authorities' repatriation process be followed properly and that those who are to be deported should not be handcuffed.

Incidentally, as per the election promise, the Trump administration issued an executive order on January 20 to send back illegal immigrants. Accordingly, a final plan has been made to issue a 'travel ban' order again by adding Afghanistan to 10 countries, including Muslim and some African countries. The order may be issued after mid-March. The countries covered by this order are Cuba, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Venezuela, and Yemen.

Citing the White House, the New York Times mentioned yesterday that the list could be longer. The State Department has said that Bangladesh, Pakistan, Indonesia, Myanmar, and several other Middle Eastern countries could be included in this list. White House sources said that several dozen countries outside the countries covered by the travel ban are being placed in the 'Orange' and 'Yellow' categories. This means that citizens of these countries will not be able to get visas according to the existing rules. They will have to wait until they receive clearance from the Washington, DC, authorities to get visas. It is known that the White House has distributed the list of countries concerned with the travel ban after seeking the opinion of the Executive Office. This is the 'Red List,' and if final approval is received, citizens of these countries will not be able to come to the United States.

On the other hand, the visa ban will not be fully effective for citizens of the 'Orange' group of countries. Only business people will get visas and can come and go to the United States. However, they will not be able to stay for long. Citizens of these countries will be ineligible for immigrant or tourist visas.
