Machine Readable Passport (MRP) re-issue program for expatriates will continue till 2025. Recently, the Department of Security Services of the Ministry of Home Affairs informed this information in a letter regarding the extension of the MRP re-issue program.

The letter sent to the Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Director General of the Department of Immigration and Passports said that for the convenience of Bangladeshi citizens living in different countries, the e-passport program will continue till 2025 along with the e-passport in all foreign missions including the United States. It has been decided to keep it. In such a situation, necessary action has been requested in the letter.

On November 24, 2015, the government launched the MRP passport. The modern e-passport entered the era on 22 January 2020. Within a few months of this, the MRP issue and re-issue process was stopped. National Identity Card (NID) has been made mandatory for e-passports, but expatriates are in trouble. Many of them could not do NID due to being abroad. So MRP re-issue started this year.

Bangladesh Embassy in Washington DC sent a letter on August 16 to extend the period of the MRP re-issue process. In view of this, the Ministry of Home Affairs decided to extend the period of the MRP re-issue program till 2025.
